Artwork for Cream Magazine's 5th Anniversary Issue

Cream Magazine (Hong Kong) was kind enough to ask GH to contribute to their 5th Anniversary Issue. Several components were submitted consisting of representational objects, artwork for a two page spread (featured here), a hand drawn letter, and an interview. These items will be part of an art exhibit accompanying the issue. Introspective contemplation on themes of illusion, reality, and perception were at the heart of this piece.

GH was asked to participate in a Nokia workshop in Helsinki(first) which was followed by an amazing four days in Stockholm(last). It was in the middle of summer and almost never got dark which pretty much blew my mind. Good times.

Watched this documentary last night and was quite surprised to learn how much I didn't know about the history of Tibet and its people. Highly recommended! Thanks Kristin.

Fantasy Island

Had a wonderful trip down memory lane last night after catching up to some folks I haven't seen in a while. Gigi graced us with her presence and we reminisced about what would easily be the most amazing getaway ever... to a little magical island near Martha's Vineyards which has undoubtedly left deep and lasting impressions on me. I had NO idea what I was getting in to when I was invited nor did I know that places like this even existed. Complete isolation from the rest of the world on a perfectly manicured private slice of heaven with no people, no electricity, no cars, no stores, nothing, just breathtaking solitude. We hung out for 3 or 4 days eating, drinking, chatting, and exploring. It was the first time I'd ever seen the Milky Way or a sky riddled with shooting stars. A chance to catch my breath and gaze deep into every direction with no distractions whatsoever was supreme therapy. True communion and a total bonding experience. Anyways, it was great to see everyone out last night which led to digging up old photos of the trip. My camera arrived smashed so I wasn't able to take any pics myself. Fortunately I've been able to include some snapshots from Ed, Gigi, and Kate here. Thanks guys.

Bear In Heaven Has a Home

Its official. Bear In Heaven is finally releasing a full length album. I've been working on the artwork for the last week so I can promise that this is more than a rumor. Home Tapes is bringing us on and giving us a lot of love. Mark Mahaney was kind enough to take an amazing cover photo for us which strikingly resembles a late 18th century oil painting. Red Bloom of the Boom.

We just played a sold out show in Philly with The National where we met Mark Schoneveld - he takes tons of videos, keeps multiple blogs and seems to be generally out and about. Anyways, he shot some videos of us performing...

Türschliesser

Just found this old poster from the one and only Türschliesser show at Tonic. It was the Bear In Heaven side project Jon Philpot, James Elliot, and myself. Experimental improvisatioin with both Jon and I on keyboards and electronics and James on bass and laptop. Think the early kraut rock ramblings of Cluster but with an occasional underlying house beat and demonic vocal rifts. It was super fun while it lasted (2005).

Türschliesser means "door-closer" in German.

Kristin's Creatures

I pretty much flipped the first time I saw these things. They're really amazing. Now I live with them. Ceramic, canvas, leather, hair, bone, etc. We photographed these little creeps a while back and started doing tests with stop frame animation. The battle cats ended up in a United Bamboo show in Tokyo strapped with a usb stick including the animation below. We're trying to get to the next stage of moving image as Kristin's been working on storyboards for something magical.

The Signal

Out of the blue one day I was contacted by an old friend of the family, Amir. He was in a frantic spell and rather exhilarated that his second feature length film The Signal had unexpectedly been accepted into the Sundance Film Festival. They needed to push the identity of the film pronto which is where I came in to help. He sent me a dvd, we had a few chats, and I ran with it. The film is, ummm, INTENSE. Here are some samples of the progression.

New Year's in Bermuda

A few pics from our New Year's trip to Bermuda which was amazing except for the fact our flight was cancelled as we were trying to leave and we got stuck for an extra two days. Oh, and I almost drove off us into a ditch on a moped. I like to think of that as thrilling though....

Archegram at Tonic - 1st Iteration

The Archegram: Iterations are a series of video projects centered around the audio/visual collaboration of James Elliot (Ateleia) and myself. We first started collaborating at the end of 2004 for the Netmage digital arts festival in Italy. Our good friend Paul Duncan happened to catch some snippets of the 1st Iteration at Tonic. The 3rd Iteration of Archegram is a work in progress slated to be released as a DVD on the Table of the Elements filmworks label.

Ateleia / Secret Machines

Pics from Ateleia opening for Secret Machines at Irving Plaza on their crazy death star tour where they played inside the craziest mega-light-surround-sound contraption ever made. I was slated to debut a video project during James' set that eve. We weren't able to find a decent projection angle through the death star, so instead we ended up killing time trying on sunglasses. As the evening progressed, everything turned bright red.

Shelter Island Getaway

We chipped in on a Shelter Island rental house for the month of August with Johnny, Jamie, Ro, and a slew of other folks. Unfortunately, I was really busy during that time and only made it out once but it was great. Stopped by a winery on the way there, took the car over a ferry to the cutest house right on the water that I wish I had taken more pictures of. It had an awesome technicolor kitchen, screened in porch, and dock right out the back door. And tennis courts just down the street! We enjoyed sunsets and ate a lot. Thanks again to the Wahbas for arranging it all.

Photos taken of the ever-evolving spray booth of our studio neighbor Cameron Martin. I've enjoyed countless hours of inspiration walking by this room on a daily basis dazzled by the consistent evolution that it takes. This was a particularly awesome Twobly-like instance in the cycle. Sometimes I tease Cameron with the thought that I might like the aftermath of his paintings more than the paintings themselves. Rumor has it that one day in the near future, GHava{Press} will be publishing a book on this fine and talented artist.

Shark Fishing with the Wahbas

Went shark fishing over the weekend Jamie and Johnny. We didn't catch any sharks exactly, but it was exciting nonetheless. I mostly watched and occasionally reeled one in. The most amazing part was the birds hovering around schools of fish as we started coming back inland. It was my first glimpse at more sportful sea fishing where a driver races over to the birds so the fishermen can cast their lines. Pretty action-packed and nothing like fishing in a lake.
